Summary

Ever since he saw the legendary player known as “the Little Giant” compete at the national volleyball finals, Shoyo Hinata has been aiming to be the best volleyball player ever! Who says you need to be tall to play volleyball when you can jump higher than anyone else?

Day 3 of the Spring Tournament gets off to a calamitous start when Karasuno makes a critical mistake and loses the first set to Nekoma! In the second set, Karasuno tenaciously attacks while Nekoma pushes through the long and grueling rallies。 Karasuno manages to build a slight lead, but Kenma’s plan slowly takes effect, and Hinata finds that he’s constantly out of position to attack。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 OMGGGGGG。 Kenma is pulling out all the stops。 I knew he as a great strategist but I didn't know he was this good。 His plan to cage Hinata was amazing, but at the same time it hurt me to see Hinata being cornered like that。 But in the end Kageyama made a spectacular choice that gave Hinata him wings back。 The image of the crow breaking out of the cage and Hinata jumping higher than he ever has before stirred something in me。 I was shocked, excited, happy, emotional, but I also expected it。 I knew OMGGGGGG。 Kenma is pulling out all the stops。 I knew he as a great strategist but I didn't know he was this good。 His plan to cage Hinata was amazing, but at the same time it hurt me to see Hinata being cornered like that。 But in the end Kageyama made a spectacular choice that gave Hinata him wings back。 The image of the crow breaking out of the cage and Hinata jumping higher than he ever has before stirred something in me。 I was shocked, excited, happy, emotional, but I also expected it。 I knew Hinata would let himself be held down any longer and Kageyama was able to give him that push。 Now, back to Kenma。 The way that he knew exactly what do, it was so calulated。 After he crushed Hinata he was sad because he in a way "leveled up" now that he was "beaten"。 And he found Hinata not "interesting" anymore。 But you can see while that happens Kenma turns his back on Hinata which demonstrates how he lost interest in him。 Well Kenma if you though that was the end of Hinata you are highly mistaken。 Because with the help of Kageyama, Hinata got his wings again and now he is flying free。 I can't wait to get my hands on the next one 。。。more

This was so good!!! I would like to talk about lines and the last two pages。 Great LinesI will wax poetically about this in volume 41, but Haruichi Furudate is REALLY good at writing! The lines he creates are memorable and inspiring。 I want to highlight some of the ones that I really like。 "Remember, the most meaningless thing is to do something JUST to do it。 Think。 Try。 Fail。 Try again。 THAT。。。is a better way" -Coach Nekomata。 Words to live by。 We should put thought to our actions before we do anything。 "Players and teams that successfully continue to improve。。。always seek to change and renew themselves, while maintaining a constant core。 Karasuno's core is their aggressiveness。 They will not stumble or hesitate so easily"-Coach Nekomata。 While this is specifically talking about a sport and a specific team, it is also something that anybody can incorporate into their lives。 What is our core? Who are we made to be and how can we improve on it so we can be more like ourselves? That to me is the heart of this quote。 "Yeppers。 Stubbornly sending EVERYONE in to attack EVERY time, making everybody into possible decoys。 One's tenacious on the ground。 The other's tenacious in the air。 That's the only difference。 But that means one side is stuck doing the harder exercise, jumping and running and jumping and running。 The Crows' territory is the air, but defending it takes a whooole lotta energy。 They've gotta peter out sometime"-Tendo。 Tendo once again delivers spot on commentary, maybe more so than the actual commentators, because he knows Karasuno and knows of Nekoma。 It also sets up this set。 "Shoyo will probably start to feel the confinement。。。and that will make him fidgety and anxious。 He'll get antsy to jump。 And Shoyo REALLY loves to jump。 It was no coincidence that he had too much momentum and jumped into the net and fouled on that block。 That only got clearer with the line shot he missed just a bit ago。 And as a setter, you don't like letting your hitters stew on a mistake too long。 So I figured that as soon as a good opportunity came up。。 Kageyama would send it straight to Shoyo。。。Just a little。 That's all we need。 I know I've said this before。。。but it's impossible to COMPLETELY shut down any kind of attack, no matter what it is。 All we need to do is take away just a few of those points that Karasuno feels that they always score。 The little stresses will pile up and lead to little mistakes, and those little mistakes will hopefully lead to lost points。 All we need are two or three。 That's it。 CAREFULLY。 But。。。not just the points。。。the lines too。 Shoyo's running lanes。 Take them。。。and cut them off。 A full approach。。。is what gives Shoyo his wings" Kenma。 Ah! To quote Lev, Kenma is SCARY。 This is why Kenma is a the "brain" of Nekoma。 He along with his team analyze and come up with a strategy that is so scary that it makes you the reader go "What's going to happen?!" This is also why Kenma is sometimes depicted as the evil mastermind。 There are more lines just like this about plucking Hinata's wings and then lamenting that Shoyo is no longer interesting, but Kenma is that true [knowing smile]?"I know that Kenma is using the fact that I can defend now to keep me from attacking。。。But I CAN'T TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT and pick one or the other。 If I don't dig the ball, there can't be any spiking。 If the ball hits the floor, then the game's over, and I won't be able to play any more volleyball。 THERE'S ONE THING I KNOW FOR SURE, AND THAT'S THAT THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS TO GETTING POINTS!" Yes, Hianta! There's the spirit! "They're making Hinata bump the serve。 But that's not all they're doing。 They're also targeting Nishinoya-san? Aha! Now I see。 They're putting him in a spot to keep Hinata from running right。 That, and I bet they're aiming at the seams specifically to make Hinata pause and think too。 Hinata may be fully willing to hit despite all that。。。But if he's in a bad position, their blockers will eat him for lunch。 And if he still tries and messes up, he'll become depressed。 They thought of all that? That's amazing。 I almost like it。 Having Hinata mostly taken out of the game isn't a fata problem。 We're still getting through pretty reliably on the edges。 But we are losing points。 only a few, but we are,。 Besides。。。this is a real cramped way to play volleyball。 I doubt Nekoma is trying to shut down Hinata completely。 Their goal is probably to take him out of the game just enough so that we lose a few points he'd normally score for us。 So。。。how do we get those points back? Too risky? Worth the shot? Heck, is Hinata even usable right now?"-Kageyama。 While Kenma is scary, Kageyama is also scary as a setter。 He may not seem as much as a brain as Kenma, but when it comes to volleyball Kageyama is like Mensa-level。 "Breaking down the wall so the hitters can get through。 THAT'S。。。WHAT A SETTER IS FOR"-Kageyama。 Cool line alert! I mean this just says it all。 Sure, Kageyama knows they are in trouble, but there's no panic just coolness。 "FOUR! THERE! FLY!"-Kageyama。 I really like this part! It brings me to the last part of the review。 Last two pagesSO BEAUTIFUL!!! These two images parallel so nicely! It was such a triumphant moment! It's like "YEEEEAAAAHHHH!" It also parallels the imagery that both Kenma and Kageyama thought about in this volume。 Verdict: Squealing, major exciting squealing! SO GOOD!!! 。。。more

kenma is my favorite child but he's so scary good at what he does that he gave me chills。 i love this match to bits。 it's so intense (might have shrieked more than ten times), everyone is bringing the best out of each other, and the stakes are high!! i could read this over and over again and still be amazed by everything。 kenma is my favorite child but he's so scary good at what he does that he gave me chills。 i love this match to bits。 it's so intense (might have shrieked more than ten times), everyone is bringing the best out of each other, and the stakes are high!! i could read this over and over again and still be amazed by everything。 。。。more
